Day TWO - Loving on our Cherubs!


Today when we entered the orphanage we went upstairs to the same area as yesterday to wait for the children.  

We found out they were downstairs in another room so we went downstairs to get them.  When the door to the room was opened we saw Shawna and Lindsay!  They are so precious and how I hope and pray they are rescued soon.  They need and deserve to be in a family; NOT an adult mental institution!  Sonya was near the door and when she heard me say her name she crawled to the doorway but a nanny picked her up.  We were surprised to see another nanny holding Dusty’s hands and “walking” him to us.  The doctor had told us yesterday that he could only crawl.  They let me carry Dusty upstairs but a nanny carried Sonya.   The nanny brought a brush and hair tie to fix Sonya’s hair.  They brought a rug out for us to play on the floor with the children. 

I believe that Sonya may have had a fever because she felt very warm and her little nose was red and chapped. 

Dusty was very stuffy and sleepy.  Needless to say we didn’t do much “playing” but we did lots of snuggling!  




We felt very blessed to be able to love on them when they weren’t feeling so well.  Sonya did spend some time “feeling” the different pages in the animal book.


  She also enjoyed playing with a toy we got from a McDonald’s while we were in Kiev.

 Dusty wanted to suck his thumb  and rest on Daddy.


  It was sweet how he would put his hand up John’s sleeve and rub the hair on John’s arm.
 Sonya kept "orchestrating" my hands by putting different things in them... 

and then squeezing them into a hug around her. 


This time with Dusty & Sonya really touched our hearts and we shed many tears again today.

  1. I'm sure all those hugs and loving from mom/dad will put both Sonya/Dusty on the road to wellness really fast. What a blessing to get to hold them and let them feel your love.

  4. Seeing you with Dusty and Sonya has absolutely made my day! Jacob and I have been checking the blog daily for updates and as soon as he saw the pictures of Dusty with his mommy and daddy he started cheering, "Yay Dusty!" We especially loved the picture of Dusty sucking his thumb while laying his head on John's arm. Jacob said, "Hey mom, Dusty looks just like me in that picture!" (Jake is an avid thumb sucker and fortunately, still loves to snuggle with mom and dad). We are praying that things continue to go smoothly and that you receive a court date soon so that you can get those sweet babies home where they belong!

Just wanted to let you know that we are working hard to finish Dusty's quilt and hope to have it on your front porch by the time you get home. If you have names you'd like me to add, please let me know (I can also leave some hearts blank so that you can fill them in. . .I have not doubt that we will fill every heart on the quilt)!

  5. Well I'm bawling! It is bitter sweet to that hallway. I am SO happy that you are rescuing these babies. Is Sonya not the sweetest thing EVER!! I love her!! It is great to see Dusty being held and not in his crib. That is great they are both mobile. I'm SO SO excited!! Can't wait for gotcha day!

  7. After all the waiting and praying how good and awesome it is to see pics of both of you holding and loving on Sonya and Dusty. How amazing thier reaction to your love. Oh my goodness I can't wait to give them a big Uncle Andy hug! May God move things quickly along so that you can bring them home as soon as possible!

  9. It's so much more rewarding to see Dusty's little face - and Sonya's - on your blog, with you as their forever family, than it was to see his little face on my Christmas tree! I'm so thankful that these two precious little ones will soon be home. Meanwhile, enjoy this very special, poignant time in their birth country - every minute will be precious in memory.

I'm sure the more time you spend with them, the more progress you will see with both of them! Can't wait to meet them face to face.   14. Well it sure looks like things are going well for y'all! While it's agony to have to leave them - this may be better than the China 'policy' of handing you the child(ren) and leaving them to you for the 'harmonious period' of 24 hours. (I'm thinking that they think if you can survive 24 hours with a child you've never met before in a country where you don't know the customs, money, or language - and no one is too worse for the wear - you're a qualified parent! Still - your process drags on...
